Abstract

The text discusses the novel Vivre l’orange (1979) by Hélène Cixous, which holds a place somewhere between a reading and a translation. It is ostensibly a reading from Clarice Lispector’s La Passion selon G.H. (1978), but this reading acts as a partial translation. The book is a side-by-side English-French translation. It resides somewhere between fragmentary citation of critical texts and the limit case of citation that is translation. The reader has to act as a simultaneous translator. But what is cited? Since each side of the book’s facing pages cites the other, what is the translation?
