In the Late Ming and Early Qing Dynasties many European missionaries came to China with the hope to convert China to Christianity and their religious missions inevitably influenced their translation of Chinese classics. The paper examines how they interpreted Chinese classics in the Biblical spirit and tried to Christianize their translations and how the historical effects of these translations contradicted these missionaries' original intentions.
