This book is an interdisciplinary work that discusses the relationship between Turkey and Germany in the field of architecture. It uses “translation” as a key term in understanding the process of cultural exchange that began in the field of architecture in the early 1930s and eventually transformed land settlement and residential culture in Turkey. The work is a rare example of its kind in using the term “translation” from within the discipline of Translation Studies to explain the complex relationships that emerge in the course of cultural transfer in a field like architecture. The work is important in that it brings a new perspective to explaining phenomena in the discipline of architecture, while more generally showing the interdisciplinary potential of Translation Studies for theorizing on intercultural relations in other disciplines.
