The analysis of the texts and paratexts of the feminist book Le deuxième sexe (1949, Gallimard) by the French philosopher Simone de Beavoir, along with its subsequent translations and rewritings into English (1952, The Second Sex), Argentinian (1954, El segundo sexo), Castillian Spanish (1998, El Segundo sexo) demonstrates the essential role that – without exception – the (un)conscious existence of a specific ideological discourse plays in the professional work of translation and paratranslation. More specifically, this study focuses on the fact that a patriarchal or feminist ideology has had and continues to have a decisive influence on the reception of the cultural and ideological good, in both the society in which it is created and that in which it is received.
