Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyse a few aspects of the interaction in consecutively interpreted discourse, above all turntaking and feedback, and to discuss some related ethical questions. The material presented in this paper consists of two authentic encounters between a doctor and a patient with an interpreter, videotaped in a medical centre in the Stockholm area in the spring of 1989. Each encounter was videotaped using two video cameras, one filming the doctor, one filming the patient and the interpreter.
