Abstract

Firstly, this paper deals with the development of CIP, the Hunter college community interpreter project. It aims to utilize the language resource of Hunter college bilingual students, as they could effectively bridge the language gap between patient and clinician, while honing at the same time their own language skills, career paths and marketability. Next, the authors discuss the CIP model, its students, the effect of CIP participation on students and the effect of CIP on the health care system. In a final instance, model replication is looked into.
