Audio description can be considered a form of audiovisual translation, which could therefore be taught in translation schools and could certainly be investigated. This article defines the concept of audio description (on the one hand, as narrative - not as text, on the other as a form of intersemiotic translation) and describes it both from a historical as from a technical point of view. Finally the author suggests some possibilities for research.
