Abstract
This paper sets out to investigate some key aspects of court interpretation in Denmark. The authors discuss, among other items, the laws mandating the use of an interpreter when non-Danish speakers appear before the court, the certification process and standards of professional conduct. They outline the role of the court interpreter with respect to accuracy, completeness, impartiality, confidentiality and conflict of interest, Danish courtroom procedure and they give an overview of potential developments in the area of court interpreting. Moreover, they discuss the similarities and differences in the work of Danes and Americans in this field.
