This paper focuses on the objectives of the ‘health care interpreter partnership project’. It is a demonstration project aiming to research, develop and test a three-tiered interpreter system which could expand to include all health care agencies in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, and become a guide for communities throughout the province. The project’s aims are, among other issues, to formulate standards for quality and delivery of interpretation, and the criteria for the evaluation of these standards.
