This paper describes the training material Medical Interpreting – Improving Communication with Your Patient; its origins in research for a theory of medical interpreting; the design of the videotape and book for flexible use; a workshop program in which the materials were used with two cohorts of first-year medical interns; and the strategies that the new doctors learned to use when working with medical interpreters.
