Abstract
This article sheds some light on the situation of translation in Belgium in the 19th century. First, an historical overview is given. The author also embarks upon Belgian identity, looks into La Jeune Belgique, a group of intellectuals who took their name from a literary periodical. Eekhoud, one of the group’s founders, is given much attention, as well as Hendrik Conscience.
