Abstract

In this article, the author discusses the origin of functionalist approaches, which were derived from Skopostheorie in the late 70s. She discusses early functional views on translation, the basic concepts of Skopostheorie, and the different applications of this approach to translator training, simultaneous interpreting, and the translation of specific text types. She concludes with considering the ethical aspects of the approach and future research possibilities in functionalism.
