The first part of this paper is a brief study of irony. In the second part, the author embarks upon the translation of irony. Here the author suggests the development of descriptive research. A limited corpus of English comedies and their translations into Spanish is used to study which strategies translators have adopted when translating irony. The third and final part of this paper is the conclusion.
