Abstract

The authors first define the concept of retranslation and discuss its complexities. They go into the problem of classification, for example the difficulty of distinguishing between retranslation and revision. Next, they discuss the research that has been done on the subject, which is mainly focused in the field of literary translation and often takes the form of case studies. Nevertheless, these studies provide useful data for research questions in Translation Studies. Lastly, the authors go into different possible causes for retranslation.
