Catford, J. C. 2000. Translation shifts. In Venuti, Lawrence and Mona Baker. The Translation Studies reader. London: Routledge. pp. 141–147.
Abstract
In this article, the author explains the notion of “shift” in translation. A shift is a departure from formal correspondence in the process of going from the source language to the target language. There are two major types of shifts, namely level shifts and category shifts. The author describes these different types of shifts extensively.
