Abstract
The guideline for this paper as well as for the research project on which it is based is a quotation of the late James S Holmes, taken from his 1972 article The Name and Nature of Translation Studies”. The central question is what happens to the time structures in a French narrative text when it is translated into Dutch. The texts of the author’s corpus are compared on a macrolevel, that is, after he has analysed original and translated versions of each of them as an independent narrative text. The corpus contains Gustave Flaubert's La légende de saint Julien l'hospitalier# and its nine Dutch translations.
