Abstract
For the purpose of this paper, the author wishes to adopt a broad meaning when saying that pragmatics is the use of language in a goal-oriented speech situation, where the speaker is using language in order to produce a particular effect in the mind of the listener. In these terms, pragmatics deals with situated speech, and is akin to the concept of communication in general. Another key concept in the paper is quality. The core element of his paper is a survey conducted by the author among Polish service users to assess their attitudes and expectations towards conference interpreting. The criteria, however, are the author's, as well as the responsibility for the statements and conclusions.
