The author investigates the phenomenon of explicitation in translated political discourse. On the basis of Polish translations of a variety of English-language press articles, she reveals the extent to which explicitation in press translation can be seen as a tool of linguistic manipulation. She shows that explicitations in translated texts serve to communicate an altered point of view to the target-text readership and construct a different conceptualization of social and political reality for the target readers.
