Abstract

This article describes the common rules and structures between Spanish Sign Language (SSL) and the Spanish language, which – because of their common features – can be incorporated into subtitling for the deaf and hard of hearing (SDH). The objective is to make subtitles more appropriate and to enable better comprehension of the subtitles by deaf audiences whose mother tongue is SSL.
