Abstract

After a brief survey of the few existing studies of Karen Blixen's bilingual oeuvre from the perspective of translation studies, this article attempts to place Blixen in the context of other authors who have translated their own work, like Samuel Beckett and Vladimir Nabokov. Since Blixen's usual practice was to write her first versions in English, which was not her mother tongue, the role of her two English language editors in England and America emerges as an important factor with implications for the comparative study of her Danish and English versions.
