As there are no regulations for courts and political instances that ensure the hiring of trained and certified translators and interpreters, there is no effective judicial protection for the parties involved in the current system in Spain. This is the case for the Al-Jazeera journalist and collaborator of the Institute of Peace and Conflict at the University of Granada, Taysir Allouny. The case of Allouny not only reflects the gaps in legal translation and interpreting services in Spain, but also reflects institutional discourse strategies that frame the information and translation in such a way that a convictive narrative is constructed. Therefore, this article discusses the case of Allouny not only from the point of view of translation quality and professional ethics but also from the angle of discourse analysis, especially in a political context or context of conflict. The authors discuss some of the translations that contributed to his conviction and make a discourse analysis of the use of these translations during the trial.
