This book gathers fifteen contributions to a colloquium held in Paris in 1990. Its main topic is faithfulness in translation. The authors wonder to whom one should be faithful, to the author or to the intent of the text? The issue is tackled from different perspectives, but other issues such as the translatability of wordplay, creativity or notes from the translator are discussed as well.
