The articles in the fourth volume of MikaEL are based on the presentations given in KäTu 2010 symposium in Helsinki. The theme of the symposium was methodology, and the articles in this publication reflect the theme in various ways. They investigate, for example, the challenges brought about by multimodal material, deliberate upon the language of note-taking and the interpreters' memory span in consecutive interpreting, emphasize the centrality of hypotheses in the methodology of translational research, and map the links between semiotics and translation theory. Methodology – various ways to do and implement – is indeed the theme that binds the articles together.
