Abstract

There is ample evidence that the role of the court interpreter is not always, if ever, clear. In this paper, the author attempts to give an account of various features of court interpreting related to the anticipated versus real role of the interpreter in the different discourse situations in which s/he works. The author proposes that the interpreter should be regarded as a true professional among other professionals in court.
