Abstract

In this paper, Demanuelli examines one of the salient aspects of a text translated at university: the quality of its extract. In a systematic way, he studies some stumbling blocks to comprehension and the perception of stylistic idiosyncrasies. The diverse problems are illustrated by means of examples culled from concrete exam texts. He is also critical of examiners who do not provide sufficient context information to students, and suggests some improvements to French examining habits.
