In this paper Paul Claes wants to show how intertextuality theory can shed light on translation studies. He does this by focusing on the translation of two words Ars Amatoria, the title of Ovid’s verses published in the year 1 BC. After a brief sketch on the origins of intertextuality theory and his own semiotic approach to this theory, the author compares different Dutch translation of the aforementioned title, first within a syntactic, then a semantic and finally a pragmatic perspective
