This book is a synthesis of research carried out for years in the field of foreign literature translated in the nineteenth century, and published in newspapers in Spain. Their main objectives are bringing attention to certain aspects of translated literature and analyze their position in the target literary system. All literary genres are considered and the texts were published in the second half of the century. There were major challenges: satisfying various readers, popularizing genres like the novel, enabling authors the use of the press as a medium. Moreover, the analyses of these translations bring out the ideological and cultural challenges of the time, and they also bring out the voice of the translator and his work.
