Abstract

In this paper, Herman Servotte wants to study empirically how translations of poetry are made and which obstacles have to be negotiated. He does this by examining three recent translations into Dutch. The translations are Auden’s For the time being, translated by Michel van der Plas, Mallarmé's poetry, translated by Paul Claes, and Rilke’s poetry, translated by W. Blok and C.O. Jellema.
