Abstract
Based on dialogic data, the article draws attention to the seemingly irrelevant processing which goes on in the joint translation process. This type of processing tends to be suppressed in think-aloud conditions, - or at least ignored in the analysis. The author argues that a theory which aims at explaining the mental processes underlying translation should be able to account for the types of phenomena observed here.
