Abstract

The author of this paper analyses the work of professional translators in everyday working life by tapping into mental processes, using think-aloud protocols. Based on the requirements of practicing translators, she draws conclusions regarding how these competences can be incorporated into translation programmes. The issues identified in the main part of this paper represent what professional translators told the author they most needed to do when they wanted to produce high-quality translations.
