This paper sets out to shed new light on the whole process of acquisition of translation-specific skills and abilities, as a necessary step to finding an effective translation teaching methodology that will guide trainee translators in their learning process. The author outlines a project to build and test measuring instruments for translation competence acquisition at each stage.
