This article deals with the problem of translation evaluation from the point of view of the accreditation of professional translators either within educational institutions or professional organizations. The author links assessment and evaluation to basic standards for professional accreditation. He argues for a criterion-referenced evaluation framework for translation, and he identifies revision time as a highly important criterion in this respect.
