In this study, key logging and eye tracking have been employed to investigate source text (ST) and target text (TT) attention during translation from L2 English into L1 Danish. More specifically, the aim is to explore the distribution of attention and the shifts in attention between ST and TT throughout a translation task. Attention that is relevant to the translation task manifests itself when gaze activity in the ST and TT areas of the monitor is registered or when typing takes place. The shifts in attention tell us (1) how many attentional segments a translator processes in a given task, and they give us information about (2) the duration of these attentional segments. The evidence underlying an attentional segment is the activity recorded between two shifts.
