Abstract
In this paper, the author aims to investigate some entailments of the variable contextual embeddedness of texts. In particular, he aims to discuss how the phenomenon of text world shifting influences the work of the translator and whether there are ways for translators to improve their performance regarding the mediating switch from source context to target context. With respect to the performance issue specifically, the author takes a look at cognitive processing during a pretranslation period in highly advanced second language acquisition, which – if properly understood and its implications effectively used – may result in improved cognitive processing during translation.
