Abstract
Directionality used to mean the direction in which the transfer occurs. Nowadays, the term indicates the practice when translators and interpreters work into their foreign language. The traditional theory pleads for translating from the foreign language (B) into the mother tongue (A). However, despite its “inferiority”, translation A-B has been common throughout history, but if so, translators seldom work alone. The article ends with an overview of contemporary research on and new findings about translation A-B.
