This article provides an overview of the main research that has been carried out on literary translation. First the author discusses literary texts, and then he gives an overview of the literary translations in history. Afterwards he reflects on themes that were found in recent research. The author concludes his article by looking at text and metatext; translation as literary criticism; and translation and multilingualism as literary devices.
