In this article the author discusses the concept of translation universals. He begins with the four influences of research on translation universals. Then he expands on its origins and divides the universals in two categories: potential S-universals and potential T-universals. He also deals with the criticism on research on universals and he concludes his article with a discussion of the methodological benefits of research on translation universals.
