Abstract
This article is divided into two parts: theory and practice. The author first defines text-based or textual approaches to translation. Then the author discusses a range of text-based language models that have been used in and applied to the translation field: Bühler’s (1990/1934), Jakobson’s (1960), and Halliday’s (1970).
