Abstract

This book starts off with the basic theoretical problems of translation and their treatment. Among otherthings, the first chapter looks into universals and translatability, the modes of translating and the concept of faithfulness and its implications. Next, it discusses the differences between written and oral translation. Other items discussed are artistic translation, contextual equivalence and translemic equivalence, and criticism of the ‘Théorie du sens’.
