Abstract

Responding to the need to provide formal training and certification for sign language interpreters, in 1993-94 the University of Hamburg in a collaborative effort by linguists, interpreters and deaf lecturers of sign language, implemented a program relating to the ‘diploma in sign language interpreting’. This article describes the structure and components of the program of studies.
