This paper deals with problems pertaining to the translation of legal terminology. The authors argue in favour of a terminological database that takes into account linguistic and legal differences and prevents the translator from jumping into premature conclusions about the similarity or identity of legal concepts. The study particularly focuses on the linguistic and legal situation in the South of Tirol.
