Abstract
This paper explains the two meanings of the acronym Euramis, which stands for European Advanced Multilingual Information System. The acronym refers first of all to a windows interface which is currently used in the European Commission's Translation Service and gives acces to a number of services in the domain of natural language processing (machine translation, automatic look-up of the Community's legislative database and automatic terminology lookup). The name also refers to a medium-term project which embraces a greater variety of batch applications and whose services are available throughout the European Commission.
