Abstract

Popol-Vuh, the work translated by Francisco Ximénez in Chichicastenango (Guatemala) at the beginning of the 17th century has had a diverse critical reception. Nevertheless, we must appreciate the fact that his translation made public a work that was actually lost for the world literature. The aim of this paper is to analyze the relation between the target text and the indigenous manuscript and its possible relation with oral Mayan literature.
