Abstract

The social and cultural practice of translating and interpreting contributed significantly to the construction of the cultures in the Habsburg monarchy. Using a broad concept of translation (cultural translation), the work examines the translational practice in the ministries, in court or in the diplomatic service and analyzes the translation flows between the languages of the Crown lands and some European languages outside of the monarchy. The example of translation from Italian into German is examined in detail.
