The main focus of this book is simultaneous interpreting from Russian into English. The book contains an introduction and is divided into two main parts. It also contains an annex on booth behaviour. A wide range of topics is discussed in the book, including, among other things, the history of Soviet-Russian-American diplomatic contacts, a history of conference interpreting, how to fill speaker’s pauses, working for the United Nations, cultural differences and the interpreter as a mediator, political terminology, problems translating Russian verbs, strategies to deal with proverbs etcetera.
