Abstract
In this paper Cenková underlines how important it is for conference interpreters to know precisely the situational context when interpreting, as this knowledge enables them to make better use of both supra-segmental (intonation and pause) and extra-linguistic elements. As audiovisual materials allow for a more realistic situational context in the classroom, they are indispensable tools in interpreter training courses. Cenková gives examples of how video materials can be useful for practical simultaneous interpreter courses and discusses recordings of press conferences, round table discussions, public official announcements, documentaries and films.
