Abstract

In 2008, several senior scholars, young researchers, and a considerable number of students gathered in Alicante, Spain to discuss what seemed to be at that moment an incipient alarm signal for Universe-Cities as problematic global villages. The aim of the symposium was, on the one hand, to discuss the implications of the communications changes entailed by the internationalization (globalization) of language and translation strategies and, on the other hand, to redefine globalization, not in terms of standardization, but on the grounds of new attitudes toward communication based on diversity, access, efficiency, etc. The nine chapters of the book endeavour to synthetize some of the most critical and criticized aspects of the manner whereby universities cope/ survive with globalization.
