This book purports to study the history of how Chinese literature was translated into other languages throughout time, as well as its influence. The book consists of six thematic sections. After the first chapter, which constitutes the introduction, the second, third and fourth chapters investigate word translations of Chinese philosophical, religious, economic, sociological, literary and artistic discourse. The translation of Chinese natural science works is investigated in the fifth chapter. In a final instance, a study of translations of Chinese writings in China is the topic of the sixth chapter.
