The author thinks that the history of translation is an undeveloped subject and that it has not been well exploited in translation teaching, especially in Spain. This brings about a risk of translators not knowing their past and becoming mere 'word traders'. This book attempts to provide an overview of the literature on the history of translation, examining the relationship between writing history and the role of translation in historiography, together with considerations on the research methodology in translation history.
