Abstract

Building on an analysis by Olga Płaszczewska (2012) of the Polish translations of Heart, this paper contributes to the study of the Polish reception of the literary works of Edmondo De Amicis. The importance given to Maria Konopnicka in the paratexts of several Polish editions of her translation is examined. The beginning of this children’s novel in certain editions is then surveyed to show the extent of the modifications made to Konopnicka’s text, which result in the creation of new texts where it is difficult to hear the translator’s voice.
